Baldone is known for its natural environment - healing mud and underground mineral waters, which have facilitated the development of resort recreation and medical facilities here throughout the centuries. Historically Baldone has been the largest sulphur and climate resort in the Russian Empire and a resort of national importance of the Soviet Union.

ATTRACTIONS
CENTRAL SQUARE BALDONE
The Central Square was established in 1950 with planted trees, shrubs, and others. 1987 the place was extended. In the extended section a flagpole was installed. The Baldone Central Square has various cultural and commemorative events. This is where the national flag flies every day, and candles are lit on holidays, and Christmas is lit nicely.
WHITE CASTLE (BALTÃ PILS)
Since the end of 1901, the hunting castle of the forester Mickiewicz decorates the area in Baldone. It is always painted white, and therefore has its name. The castle and its beautiful park with exotic trees has always been well maintained. But in the First World War, the castle was converted into a hospital, later used as a tuberculosis pension, a military headquarters and for other purposes. After all, it was a hall for formal events. Thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of many people, in 1985, the Baldone Music School was officially founded in the Palace and later, in 1993, also the Music Elementary School. The White Castle was renovated and is still surrounded by the park which was planted at the beginning of the 20th century. The park, with its rare plants, is recorded in the Latvian List of natural resources. The historical inner life of the castle has not survived because the prerequisites were used for school purposes.
MERCENBARBE MANOR
A beautiful hundred-year-old Linden-avenue leads to Mercendarbe Manor, which has been mentioned in writings since the 17th century. The owners and times have changed but Mercendarbe Manor has retained its historic appearance and charm. This building has an 18th century exterior door leaf and has become a valuable historical heritage and cultural monument. Regular ceremonies, concerts and seminars take place here, and guests from Latvian and distant countries will find accommodation here.
BALDONE CHURCH
The Ev. Lutheran. Church St. Michael is a national cultural monument. It was built and consecrated in 1824. In a liberating part of the church, the church Community ordered a memorial for the slain soldiers of World War I. 53 oaks in memory of the soldier's heroes. In 1988, the first Christmas church service was held. Within less than a year later the large-scale renovation began. The church has been restored and balls has were gilded. Visit the church with its restored rooms, its particularly large windows and beautiful organ, which was brought there from Austria in 2009. The church is decorated with a noble altar and writings.
ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY, BALDONE
The Observatory is located in the forest of Baldone, where the observations are not disturbed by any bright light of the city or by noise. It is Latvia's only professional Observatory. The "powerful Schmidt" has made the observatory to his home - the largest telescope in the Baltics. With the Schmidt telescope you can observe the stars as well as comets and asteroids. The observatory offers exciting individual guided tours for individual groups.
GERMAN CEMETERY KANNENEK
German soldiers' cemetery 1914/18
Cemetery Size: 1,225 m²
The cemetery is also referred to as "Bakan" or "Kannenek" in older places. The burial ground consists of 2 blocks and is covered with a fencing fence. In block A there are three funeral series with 6 graves and in block B seven burial series with 19 graves. Concrete crosses stand on all the graves. There are 154 crosses and 19 crosses missing. Probably there was no central monument.
GERMAN CEMETERY KAKAULI
German soldiers' cemetery 1914/18
Cemetery size: 782 m²
The cemetery is encircled by an earth wall. There is a monument opposite the entrance (iron gate and stone walls).
On the monument was written that 156 German and 6 Russian soldiers were buried in the cemetery, and 166 names of German soldiers and 6 names of unknown Russians were engraved on the grave. Altogether there are 172 funerals. In the list of tombs of the National Archives of Latvia's history of 1918, 172 well-known German and six unknown Russian soldiers are mentioned, six German officers have been transferred to their homeland.
RUSSIAN WAR CEMETERY
A total of 1134 Soviet soldiers and officers who died during the Second World War were buried at this Russian military cemetery.
VANAGKALNI PARK AND OUTDOOR STAGE
The Vanagkalni are among the most picturesque moraine hills in the region around Baldone. They are located 46m above the sea level. In Summer, concerts and balls take place on the Vanagkalnu stage, built in 1989. The surrounding area around the music pavilion is nicely decorated and qualified.
WOOD ARCHITECTURE
Although many houses were destroyed during the Second World War, a series of beautiful wooden houses with their interesting architecture remained. The buildings were built at the beginning of the last century. In Bridge Street 2 you will find the Monument of Liberty and the residential building designed by the architect and professor at the University of Latvia. The buildings are built functionally, without unnecessary decoration and organically they fit into the surrounding countryside.
ULMANA HILL
On September 7, 1935, the famous holiday resort/spa town Baldone and the sulfur source were visited by the then Latvian Prime Minister, Karlis Ulmanis. During her visit to Baldone, on the hillside of the oak, Ulmanis addresses the nation.
The oak grows even today and there is a memorial stone on the stairs.
SULPHUR SPRING "KIRZACINA" ("LIZARD") AND LILAC PARK
The sulfur source is said to have the miraculous ability of the healing. For centuries, thousands of vacationers and patient came to Baldone to heal themselves. In historical documents, you can found evidence that already in the 15th century the leaders of the Teutonic order and the Riga nobles visited the source and called it "a source of youth". In the spring of 1795 the Baldone resort was established, which is the oldest resort in the Baltic States and one of the most famous and the largest in Europe. Even today, every inhabitant of Baldone and vacationers can visit the sulfur source and taste the sulfur water. The historical object is included in the national list of protected cultural monuments. The source of sulfur flows through places where it has contact with the peat and gypsiferous rock which are rich in hydrogen sulphide and carbonic acid. Their roots begin in the Kemeri well-known sources. The spring water is colorless and clear, has a bitter taste and a strong characteristic smell of eggs. The sulfur water is good for bathing, drinking, for flushing, inhalation and physiotherapeutic sessions.
Lilac park
The park in the sanatorium was founded in 1985. Lilacs, ornamental shrubs and flowers are planted here. In History it is said that the park was a popular meeting place and the Life here was full of Energy. In the spring, the spa guests arrived eight times a day, as prescribed by the doctor and drank a glass from the sulfur source.
ACTIVITIES
"RIEKSTUKALNS" SKIING AND SUMMER ADVENTURE PARK
"Riekstukalns" is the most popular and largest ski resort in the Baltic States. Here you can choose between 13 different difficulty levels, there are tracks between 170-350 meters in length for skiers and snowboarders, as well as the snowpark, border-cross-track and the beginner's hill. For cross-country skiers there is an illuminated route, suitable both for classic driving style and for skating.
During summers there is an adventure park, toboggan, zip line, bungee jumping trampoline, tubing and Inflatable attractions.
OBSERVATION TOWER
In the summer of 2018 an observation tower was opened in the newest part of Riekstukalns. It is 16 m high and is accessible to residents and tourists free of charge.
From the tower there is a charming view of the gorgeous nature of Latvia, as well as the capital city of Riga and its tallest buildings.

BALDONE "WATERJUMP"
The "Waterjump" Park in Baldone is the absolute highlight for extreme sport poeple. The ramp that leads into the water can be conquered with skis, snowboard, BMX- bikes or other things. But also holidaymakers can use our "Slip and Slide" ramp. Anyone can slide over the ramp into the water without any equipment. But not only the ramp can be used, a trampoline, a volleyball court and a barbecue place ensure a unique atmosphere.

BALDONE SPORT COMPLEX
You would like to be active? Then visit the sports complex in Baldone. It offers the possibility to practice different team and individual sports. In addition, you can rent rooms for training and sporting events. The sports complex has a sports hall with a grandstand, an aerobics room with equipment for seminars, as well as an athletics and fitness room with an additional sauna.
In addition there are beach volleyball courts, artificial grass football field, outdoor fitness equipment and a skate park.
RELAXING AT THE LAKE
Looking for a picnic on the lake? In the area of Baldone you can find a variety of lakes. The lake "Kausezers", "Liliju ezers", "Pakuļezers" and "Zāļezers", is often frequented by locals or tourists on a walk. Also for a picnic is enough space. If you are looking for a quiet place, nothing is more relaxing than the natural environment.
FISHING
If you would like to relax and enjoy nature, you can go fishing. It is one of the most beautiful recreational activities in the nature. You can enjoy your sport by trying to catch a particularly splendid fish, while at the same time you have the opportunity to enjoy the nature and chirping of the birds. It is important to note that a fishing card is necessary for fishing in Latvia. These are sold in all specialized fishing and hunting businesses as well as at local post offices. When you go fishing you should have the fishing card as well as the identity card with you. The rules are laid down in Latvia by the Fishing Law. In Latvia, there are both public waters where you can fish without restrictions, as well as private water areas where an owner's permission to fish is required. There are also individual river and lake sections, where fishing is permitted only with a special license.
Ice fishing is particularly popular in winter. As soon as the rivers and lakes freeze, the time of the Ice fisher begins.
BIKE CYCLING
The bicycle is also becoming an increasingly popular means of transport in Latvia, at least every fourth inhabitant has a bicycle. The cycling network is gradually developing, and in many places it is possible to rent a bicycle, as long as you do not have your own bike. Baldone is ideal for cycling with its untouched landscape. Well equipped and informed, it is possible to do both shorter and longer cycling tours. In addition, you can observe the landscape and sights on a bike ride better than on a fast car trip. By bike you can reach everything, drive to an unexpected castle, go over a nature trail or through an old town.
HIKING
Hiking is one of the main leisure activities of foreign visitors in Latvia. The landscapes are known for their beauty, vegetative biodiversity and minimal human settlement. Here it can be walked in peace and quiet for miles through seemingly untouched terrain. The nature holiday has developed into one of the most popular branches of tourism in Latvia in recent years. Baldone attracts not only because of the overall worth seeing nature, but also of individual, often over regional buildings or other highlights. So you can either marvel at the nature or go hiking with cultural activities and get to know the local attractions.
HORSE RIDING
Tourists who like to ride a Horse or want to learn it have the opportunity to visit Equestrian Club "Telfas". It is a good alternation to the other sports such as cycling or hiking, becasuse you also have contact with animals. You can go on a nice ride in the nature, because the area is surrounded by a beautiful forest and terrain, but you can practice jumping and dressage rides. They specialize in equestrian sports which are particularly suitable for people with special needs.
HORSECLUB "TELFAS"
Do you love horses and riding in the nture? Then visit one of our riding facilities in the area. The riding school "Telfa" offers riding lessons with certified trainers. Whether in the wild or on the terrain, jumps or dressage lessons are taught. If you are planning a longer stay in Latvia, you can also take an education here.

SKIING /SNOWBOARDING
Snowy winter landscape, surrounded by fantastic mountain panorama and at the feet the boards, which mean the world. This dream in white can be found especially in the winter season in Baldone. Those who love skiing or snowboarding are just right here. The ski centers "Riekstukalns" and "Mezkalni" are nearby. Whether beginners or advanced, anyone who is interested in skiing or snowboarding will feel very comfortable here and above all enjoy the fresh air. And if you need a break from skiing you can make yourself comfortable in a café, because the physical well-being is provided in both ski resorts.
WAKEPARK TĀLES
This multifunctional active recreation park offers possibilities to spend the leisure time actively and hold a place for celebrations while enjoying the magic of the countryside. The park is equipped with wakeboard and volleyball area, children's playground, a trampoline, and a mini zoo with exotic animals - alpacas, blue cows, ponies, goats, sheep, donkeys, and birds.
There it is possible to purchase various goods from the countryside.
From summer 2018, it will be possible to rent a summer cottage with an outdoor jacuzzi to enjoy a warm swim under the open sky.
The active recreation park is open to visitors from mid-May until the end of September.
